Clean it now or kiss your happy 2011 good-bye

I don’t know about you, but I MUST HAVE my house in order by New Year’s Eve … it’s an old superstition perhaps, but if my house isn’t cleaned within an inch of its life by New Year’s, I know I’ll have trouble all the next year. I also happen to have a very clear idea that at least \ the start of 2011 will be a bumpy one for me because I’ll be looking for new work.

So, this year especially, I need to have things in order – papers filed, laundry done, closets under control, yarn sorted and stacked, floors vacuumed, you know the drill. ALL OF IT. On a day like this, it’s important to start out with a good breakfast … so I fixed myself some stuffed french toast:

Stuffed french toast with berries

… have you ever had/tried this? Make your regular french toast; I use whole grain bread and sprinkle some cinnamon in the egg and milk mixture. Brown that quickly in a hot pan with a little non stick spray and a pat of butter. Then, heat a little jam in the microwave, when the first piece of toast comes out, cover it with some whipped cream cheese and pour the heated jam over it. Top that with the second piece of toast and cover the whole thing with berries. Bananas work well too, but berries are so heart-healthy. Pour maple syrup over the whole mess and gobble!

After that, it’s dusting, vacuuming, making the beds all neatly:

Beds all made for 2011

Clearing closets, emptying trash cans, wiping mirrors and counter tops …. you get the drill. You WOULD NOT BELIEVE what this bathroom counter looked like this morning before we started:

Bathroom counters all clean

Emily is very unhappy with all the noise and commotion. She wants mama to sit down and put a fluffy blanket on her lap and knit quietly like a good girl.

Emily upset at the noise

I think I’ll go accommodate that request now. We can look at this little tree in the snow.

Happy New Year Tree

Happy New Year everyone! May it be a wonderful one for all of us!

What a beautiful bed! And I love the french toast. Sometimes we throw in some hot chocolate mix with the egg/milk, then top with cherries and whipped cream. I’m going to try your version!
