I guess this means I have to update the bucket list – Oahu’s done!

Oahu was beautiful and since I got to see it, I guess this means I have to update the bucket list?

Time for that later. Now, more pictures of Oahu!

The Nu’uanu Pali Lookout – our first stop before we got to the little guesthouse.

This was the view from our guest house porch.

This is the kitty that our hosts shared with us – he liked our porch.

This was our first real view of the coastline

Oahu, Hawaii

A short walk from our guest house was the Waimanelo Beach – so gorgeous! None of those stupid high rise condos and chain restaurants. Just trees and sand and waves and this island to look out at.

The water is so blue and so warm, it’s wonderful. We snorkeled for hours in this bay – Hanauma, which is a nature preserve and there were so many fish! Super easy snorkeling and the reefs were beautiful.

Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve

This was a very popular spot with Hawaiian royalty over the years. It’s gone through it’s trials with visitors who trod upon the reefs and destroyed a lot of the beauty. Then, it was turned into a nature preserve and protected. Millions of visitors each year, but they know not to step on the reef, etc. We could have snorkeled here forever, but we got a little sea-water logged and started to get sunburns so we headed in.

We visited all of the beaches along the coast up toward the famous North Shore where the waves are very high and the surfers lurk until the right season to ride them.

More coming tomorrow …

Just gorgeous! Not a part of Oahu that we saw. I may have to change my mind!

I have to say I usually find the best places – sheer luck or determination, I don’t know, but there you have it. It’s likely we’ll go back every year I think since it’s so close to here.
