As if I didn’t have Enough to Do

Here is what happens when a creative, thinking person has too much time on her hands because her clients backed off on their work requirements. She starts networking (and learning a lot) and she meets some interesting and smart people. One of whom says something along the lines of: ‘I’m tired of website design and would love to have a product that I could sell that would make money while I slept.’

This was shortly after my Big Sur Yoga Retreat, where I met an excellent yoga teacher whose guidance let me do yoga with my eyes closed. At the retreat, I asked her if she’d ever considered recording her classes and she said that she had, that many students had asked for it, but she really didn’t know how to do it or ¬†…. and the voice trails off there.

When I heard my new network buddy’s frustration, I realized what that product could be.

I started to explain it to her – recorded yoga classes that a yogi could do anywhere – no video required, no screen to tote around, no Internet connection necessary and she ‘got it’ immediately. We made a pact of silence and went our separate ways to research. Ever since, we’ve been meeting about once a week, divvying up the tasks and connecting the dots and writing the business plans and it’s coming together.

What we did when we realized we didn’t need any more feedback that this was a good idea?

  • We came up with a name (hint: it’s Audible Yoga, website coming soon).
  • We designed a logo and pestered friends, those in our professional networks, and family members for their opinions (hint: you’ve likely seen it and weighed in).
  • We contacted a photographer I’d worked with before – one who turned out to be one resourceful package of fun – and arranged a photo shoot with some volunteers.

We were lucky enough to work with a fabulous group of women – each of whom was representative of our target market. We even had a lovely mom-and-daughter team.

I am so, so grateful and will be sending more info here and there. As soon as the site is up, I’ll let you know and we’ll all be doing yoga by the pool!
